I fell in love with children’s illustration while taking a digital art course at Oakland University. After graduating in 2023, I now spend my time creating warm, comforting illustrations for kidlit books. My favorite projects to work on are picture and board books, but I also have a soft spot for middle-grade chapter books. When I’m not drawing, you can usually find me doing some sort of “grandma” craft hobby (lately knitting and cross-stitch), or reading a cozy mystery book!
I’m Emily Paige (she/her), a Michigan-based children’s illustrator and felt artist bringing whimsical stories to life for young readers. I create my work using two approaches: entirely digital and a combination of digital illustration with hand-cut felt elements.
Please reach out if you’d love to work together on a project!

For the most part, I use Procreate on my iPad with an Apple Pencil. Occasionally, I use Photoshop for small edits. For my felt pieces, I use 1.2mm hard felt and the teeniest scissors and tweezers I can get my hands on.

I start by sketching out my illustration and tracing it onto transfer paper, which I use as a reference when hand-cutting the pieces of felt that I’ll need. Then, I glue the pieces together and photograph them, sending the photo to my iPad. I use Procreate to digitally draw on top of the image to add all the little details and fun elements! Cutting the felt and piecing them together is like a puzzle in my head, and as an avid jigsaw-puzzler, it’s my favorite part.

I tend to be drawn to all things whimsical and cozy, but some of my favorite things to look at for inspiration are woodland animals and natural elements like flowers, mushrooms, and plants. When I think about the art that always catches my eye, they tend feature one (or more) of these things.
